One Year of Xinity

One year ago today, Xinity was registered in Vienna. We started it for a specific group of organizations: banks, insurers, hospitals and public institutions that want to use AI but can't let every prompt leave their building. Our mission is to make Europe compute independent, one company at a time.

For these organizations, where data goes is not a detail. Under GDPR, the EU AI Act, DORA and NIS2, it is usually the first thing their data protection officer asks about. Xinity lets them run open models on their own servers, with a cloud-like experience and the data staying where it is.

From Impact Hub to AI Factory Austria

We started in November 2025 at a desk at Impact Hub Vienna. Since July 2026, the team works from AI Factory Austria (AI:AT), among the researchers and companies building AI infrastructure in Austria.

Why we went open source

If you ask an organization to run AI on its own hardware, it should be able to see exactly what it is running. That is why we made the platform open source and announced it on stage at GenAI Zürich.

Since then we have published 89 releases and 1,051 commits on GitHub. Anyone can read the code, run it, audit it or open an issue.

Taking it to Vienna and Berlin

In Vienna, we started the Sovereign AI Lab, a meetup series that opened with OFF CLOUD at fiskaly. In Berlin, we exhibited at GITEX AI Europe. In both places, most conversations came back to one question: how do we use AI and still keep control of our data?
